Bowling Green State University
Spring Program

  • Hosting FREE Spring Cyber Camp for 5-7th graders who will get paired with undergraduate mentors to

explore the exciting world of Cybersecurity. Will be held four Saturdays in 2025: 2/22; 3/8; 3/22; and  4/12.

October

 

The Ohio State University

  • The Ohio State University Institute for Cybersecurity & Digital Trust held its Annual Symposium Tuesday, October 22 from 8:30am-4pm featuring state leaders and a wide breadth of sessions.

The Ohio State University

  • Ohio State University’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence has received a competitive federal grant to provide free cybersecurity training for small businesses in Ohio. This course is an introduction to cybersecurity practices that takes three to four hours to complete. Upon completion, OSU will issue an achievement badge. The course outlines general best practices and provides information about many different areas of a business' cybersecurity plan. Some topics include phishing, cyber inventory, network security, and passwords. This course is free and available to all Ohio small businesses with ongoing registration and no deadline to sign up. As a first step, businesses can register on the website.​

Stark State College​

  • Stark State College achieved the Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense designation from the National Security Agency. NCAE-C program aims to create and manage a collaborative cybersecurity educational program with community colleges, colleges, and universities that establishes standards for cybersecurity curriculum and academic excellence. Stark State joins several other Ohio Colleges and Universities in this designation that includes several OCRI members. â€‹

Shawnee State University
Offered free Ethical Hacking Essentials one-week bootcamp for public ages 17 and up August 8-16.

  • Local IT professionals from our regional businesses are already signing up for the course.

University of Dayton

  • The Center for Cybersecurity & Data Intelligence (CCDI) welcomed a new Director, Grant Neeley in January. UD supported new related curriculum offerings in Forensics, Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Law with three new faculty fellows in the Criminal Justice & Security Studies area. In addition, the director and research director led the University's Strategic Working Group on Artificial Intelligence. The CCDI worked with OCRI on the Ohio Persistent Cyber Improvement initiative to incorporate the Cybermindfulness training approach to cybersecurity for local governments.

 

University of Akron

  • Offered a free camp for high school students. Cyber Camp 5.0 provided lunch and snacks and taught technical skills for information technology and security July 29-August 2.

Bowling Green State University​

Summer Programs

  • Hosted junior high/high school teacher workshop teaching cybersecurity basics so they can train students.

  • Hosted Summer Camp: June 24-28 for 34 high school students. Students trained in basic cryptography, phishing, social engineering, password and email security, digital forensics, and included some basic programming activities with robots.

​Kent State University​​

  • Awarded grant award for DoD Digital Engineering Centers to integrate cybersecurity into instruction of systems engineering lifecycle.

  • Earned NCAE-R designation as of January 2025 for their CS graduate program of study in cybersecurity concentration.

  • Launched new BS program in Cybercriminology ; launched new Global Security Concentration in the MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice program. Updated BS in Cybersecurity Engineering (CYEN) program with the hiring or Dr. Gurkan and updates in courses.


Shawnee State University

​Hosted cybersecurity bootcamp for local high school teachers June 3-7. At the bootcamp:

  • Dovel Myers, Information Security faculty, taught Ethical Hacking Essentials.

  • John Wiseman, Ohio Department of Education, presented information on how to start high school cyber clubs.

  • Teachers traveled to tour the Nationwide Security Operations Center in Columbus.

  • Teachers learned curriculum they can now take back to the classroom. They also each received a $250 stipend, free access to online labs, and a voucher to test online for the EHE certification.
     

Hosted Bear Tracks Residential Summer Program with 15 enrolled recent high school graduates June 10-28.

  • Dovel Myers taught CompTia A+.

  • Two students received full certification. Several others passed one of two sections of the testing.

  • Held career fair to invite local employers to meet with the students to discuss internship and job opportunities.


SOCHE
Summer Programs

Received approval to serve as an EC-Council Security Testing Center.

  • Worked with more than 100 high schools across Ohio to place over 200 interns into IT-related internships.

  • Placed more than 100 college students into internships.

  • Hosted Girl Scout Cyber Challenge


Tiffin University
Summer Program

  • Cybersecurity camp for high school students June 10-14, teaching ethical hacking fundamentals, social engineering techniques, countermeasures and network defense. 
     

University of Akron
Summer Programs

  • Network basics and cyber forensics for Akron high school students.

  • Mark Bell presented cybersecurity policy to a sponsored group of the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of International Visitors.

  • Members from the Air National Guard presented to students on the topic of cyber warriors and cyber warfare.  

  • Cyber forensics students presenting wireless 802.11 network forensics headers, frame types, and the first 2 bytes of the IEEE 802.11 bit-transmission order.
