are on the frontline of cybersecurity threats
CFFAK: Accessible, Immediate & FREE Cyber Resource
The Cyber Frontline First Aid Kit (CFFAK) is an accessible, immediate resource for Local Government Entities (LGEs) to address cybersecurity challenges. Created by the Ohio Cyber Range Institute, CFFAK provides essential information and initial action items that LGEs can implement before transitioning into our whole-of-organization cybersecurity training program, called Ohio Persistent Cyber Improvement (O-PCI).

Challenges & Opportunities: The Challenges Facing LGEs
Local governments are prime targets for cyberattacks. The disruption of LGEs can lead to the disruption of public services and loss of public trust, which underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures. Common types of cyberattacks facing LGEs include:
-
Phishing
-
Ransomware
-
Data breaches
These attacks can have severe impacts, such as financial loss, data theft, and operational downtime, that can erode public trust and hinder the delivery of essential services.

Challenges & Opportunities: The Challenges Facing LGEs

CFFAK emphasizes a “scope down to scale up” approach, advocating for minimal but effective improvements that can be built upon over time. It focuses on basic cybersecurity actions such as:
-
Asset inventory
-
Data classification
-
Updating software
-
Implementing strong passwords
-
Educating staff about threats
By implementing better practices contained in the CFFAK, LGEs can begin their journey towards robust cybersecurity, ensuring the protection of public services and maintaining public trust.
